The District

The 8th arrondissement is the home of many of Paris' best known and most prestigious sites, stores, hotels and restaurants. Right next door to the "MALESHERBES-MONCEAU" apartment, you will find the Camondo Museum for decorative arts. Before it became a Museum this "Hotel Particulier", or private mansion, was the residence of the very wealthy and influential Camondo family.

Upon strolling down Avenue Malesherbes, you will soon come upon the famous Madeleine Church, Rue Royale, and Rue Faubourg Saint Honoré, known for its high-end fashion. The stores of Yves St. Laurent, Dior, Gucci, Hermes, Ferragamo and others can be found in this upscale neighborhood.

On rue Royale, stop by Maxim's restaurant for brunch or a quick coffee, and you will quickly understand what Parisian Art Nouveau is all about. This neighborhood also puts you in close proximity to the Place de la Concorde, the Tuileries Gardens, the famous Champs Elysées, and the Louvre Museum.

The "MALESHERBES-MONCEAU" apartment affords easy access to many modes of transportation. There are numerous Metro stops nearby in addition to bus lines and taxi stands. The apartment is also near "Le Marché de Levy," one of the 10 best markets in Paris.

North of the apartment you will find the Pigalle district, the Moulin Rouge, some great restaurants, cafés, galleries, and of course, Montmartre and the Sacré Coeur--which provide a stunning view of the city. This part of town inspired the work of artists including Picasso, Renoir, Monet, Manet, Toulouse Lautrec, Juan Gris, Jean Cocteau, Jean Marais, and others. The hit film "Amelie" was shot in Montmartre, and it is common to see French and foreign film crews at work in this neighborhood.
