Villa des Remparts

Villa des Remparts stands on a portion of what was once the ramparts of a large castle built to protect the inhabitants of this peaceful southern French, Languedoc village from attacks by knights from neighbouring areas seeking territory, bloodshed or looting.

Your hosts, Geri and Roberto, have traveled extensively around Europe and throughout the world. You can see and feel the strong influence of their travels in the decor that they have chosen, mainly from Greece, Morocco and Colombia.

When you’re enjoying an aperitif on the terrace at the end of the day and catching the last rays of the sun you can easily imagine being in Marrakech or Mikonos.

While living in Brussels, Geri and Roberto attended a cooking school. They both are chefs and can prepare some outstanding and excellent meals for you. For breakfast insist on sampling their own baked bread.

The House

During the 1800's Villa des Ramparts was a busy vineyard producing Minervois wines cellar. In little over a hundred years Villa des Remparts went from a bustling centre of wine production to abandoned and stood empty for over three decades. About 5 years ago your hosts Geri and Roberto came through the region looking to buy a property and eventually open a Gite. They fell in love with Villa Des Remparts, which at time lay in ruins.

But as you can see from the photographs they have invested an enormous amount of work and love to restore the property to what it is today.

Some of the furniture, paintings (artistic and around the home), artifacts, accessories, etc. were done or transformed by your hosts.

Geri and Roberto are eager to welcome you as their guests to enjoy the comfort and decor of Villa des Remparts. With over three hundred square meters of space, plus the terrace and patio, one can get almost lost within the house!

The three full bedrooms and bathrooms accommodate six guests comfortably. One bedroom can also be rented out. The included breakfast comprises local jams and honey, butter, home cooked bread, tea, coffee, juices, amongst other delights.

Rates

Your hosts rent the whole of Villa des Remparts all inclusive, except for long distance phone calls, on a weekly basis to a group or family of up to six guests for 1,300.00€. One bedroom can also be rented out for 95.00€ a night inclusive of breakfast & cleaning departure.

The Region

The house serves as a good base to explore many historical places, wine cellars, surrounding villages, and visit the nearby seashores of the Mediterranean.

Attractions in the area

The village of Minerve, 7km away, was a strategic Cathars point and an important stopover for the pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostella in Spain during the Medieval times. It was also the home of Simon de Montfort.

Fontfroide's Abbey, one of the France's most visited Abbeys is located just 25km away.

Carcassonne, the largest and best-kept Medieval Castle in all of Europe, seen in a number of International films, is a definite must for anyone staying in our area. The town of Carcassonne also deserves a visit. The Canal du Midi wanders around the town's edge. The covered market should not be missed while an eighteen-hole golf course awaits the real afficionados.

A short 4km away is a market that takes over the streets every Thursday. It is the perfect place to find fresh produce and unique local cheeses and other products. Don't miss it!

Restaurants abound! You will not have to drive more than a few kilometers to experience some of the finest food in Languedoc. Better yet, have Geri and Roberto prepare your dinner. Their cooking is outstanding!
